Automated Minor Ingredient Dosing Systems
Minor ingredients go in by the gram but decide the result. Salt, yeast, enzymes, nutrients, soakings, seeds and improvers shape texture and taste, and where a dough ferments, they steer that too. A few grams off, and the batch is off. And the job keeps getting harder: ingredient lists are growing, more recipes run on a single line, and dedicated single-product lines are built less and less.
Weighed by hand, they bring four problems: dosing errors, delays, no reliable trace of what went in, and slow work that ties up skilled people. The more complex the recipe, the bigger the risk.
Spiromatic doses minor ingredients two ways, a fully automatic on-demand system and a structured manual one, so you can match the automation to your process and move from one to the other later.
Automated vs manual minor ingredient handling
The choice is usually straightforward: weighing by hand is error-prone, hard to trace, and labor-intensive. Automated dosing holds accuracy, records every dose, keeps handling closed and clean, and repeats exactly. Spiromatic also offers a structured manual system as a starting point, a step up from loose hand-weighing that can grow into full automation.

Automatic minor ingredient dosing
Spiromatic's automatic system doses on demand from integrated storage bins. Each minor ingredient is stored in its own bin and dosed by a spiral conveyor into a weigh hopper below the platform. Ingredients are weighed on top of one another, and once the recipe is complete, it travels by vacuum to the final reception hopper at the dosing point.
What it gives you:
- The right capacity for the application, built to order
- Storage hoppers matched to each ingredient
- High dosing capacity, varying with the product's temperature, moisture, and flow
- Accurate weighing, down to small quantities
- Each complete dose transported as a batch to the line
- Hygienic stainless-steel build
- Bins loaded from an integrated pallet platform, with a guarded filling opening
- Dust-free operation, including during filling
Key specifications
- Storage hopper volume from 63 to 114 gal
- Pneumatic filling of the storage hoppers
- Doses up to 10 gal weighed at the main dosing point
Manual minor ingredient dosing
Not everything needs full automation. For ingredients you keep manual, such as additives used in only a few recipes, allergens you keep separate, or occasional specialty ingredients, Spiromatic supplies structured hand-dosing tables in stainless steel or synthetic containers. It is clean and ergonomic, and it can still link into the wider system:
- Table model with weighing scales on a mobile cart
- Spare ingredients stored in flour carts under the table
- Recipe shown on screen, linked to the weighing computer
- Ergonomic layout for fast, easy weighing
- Hygienic storage of minor ingredients
- Storage units of 15 or 21 gal
- Connects to your ingredient automation and recipe management
Built to fit your line
Both systems are part of Spiromatic's weighing and dosing range and connect to your conveying and bulk ingredient lines, fitted at whatever stage your plant is in. The result is a recipe that comes out the same every time, batch after batch.
